Are you living with a chronic or
long-term health condition?
Is it affecting your life in ways you didn’t expect?
Are you struggling with feelings around not being able to do things you used to do, or things that your friends, family and colleagues can do?
Are you tired of hearing comments like “I’m tired too, just get on with it” or “have a coffee”, when what you really need is to feel heard and understood?
Hi, I’m Libby - Counsellor, Listener, and someone who understands that life can change in ways you never expected
My work has been shaped, in part, by my own lived experience. I know that living with ongoing health difficulties can affect far more than just your physical health. It can change how you see yourself, what you feel able to do, your relationships, your confidence, and your sense of who you are.
I also know how much it can mean to be genuinely listened to and for your experience to be validated. When you’re living with something that others may not be able to see or fully understand, it can sometimes feel as though you have to explain, justify, minimise, or prove how difficult things really are. You may have become used to putting on a brave face, carrying on, or hearing well-meaning comments that don’t quite reflect what life is actually like for you.
It’s important to say that I’m not a doctor, and I can’t offer medical advice, diagnose conditions, or support you with managing your condition(s) itself. What I can offer, is a warm, compassionate space where you can feel heard and understood as you explore the emotional impact of living with chronic or long-term health issues. I will gently make space for the things that can be harder to talk about - the frustration, grief, anger, uncertainty, loneliness, loss of confidence, changes in identity, or simply the exhaustion of having to keep going.
Every part of you belongs. In our sessions you don’t have to hide, fix or change the parts of yourself that feel difficult to understand. Together, we can gently make space for whatever you’re carrying, reconnect with the parts of yourself that may have been lost or pushed aside, and explore what it might mean to feel more whole, connected and truly yourself again.
You don’t have to put on a brave face with me. You don’t have to arrive feeling positive, have it all figured out, or know what you want to say. You can show up exactly as you are that day, whether that means you’re overwhelmed, frustrated, sad, tired, having a ‘good day’, or simply unsure of what you’re feeling. My role is to listen, without judgement or expectation, and to meet you with empathy, understanding and compassion.
Together, we can explore what your experiences have meant for you, at your own pace, and begin to make sense of the feelings you may have been carrying alongside everything else.
